Re: Dubstep V.S Witch House

Fun bit of info here, Rusko actually started as a Grime producer, and his later-older splits with Caspa have heavy reggae influences. Brostep is identified by many as high energy LFO-centric music (Wobble). Wobble had been around for a good long time in traditional dubstep, which was a product of it...

Re: White Ring - Mix 4 HAM

Just finished it. Quality sucked, but the song selection and mixing were really nice. LOL at that old hardstyle track mixed throughout the set.

Re: Dubstep V.S Witch House

It's pretty obvious that S4LEM, Balem Acab, and White Ring are the forerunners for mainstream recognition. Fact is, Brostep is nothing like traditional dubstep, and the closest thing you will find to trad stuff in the mainstream was Skream's remix of "In For the Kill" (which, by the way, i...

Re: Dubstep V.S Witch House

Found this guy's stuff on the boards a few days ago. Really good example of how dubstep influences can create really unique WH.

General Topic - When did it stop being "drag" & start being "witch-house"?

Prepare your brain for some deep, meta-philosophical questions here... This has been buggin' me since I joined the boards. Who/what decided the genre was to be dubbed "Witch-House" in the end? When I was first introduced to Salem and the like, people were calling it "Drag" or &qu...

Re: Critique / Feedback Topic?

Right on. My roots in production stem from minimal IDM and dubstep. I've actually got two other music projects going along with Teacake, the bigger of the two is The Gray Earl which is really chill dubstep. Not really looking for critique on this one as it's old and's already been released, but have...

Re: Critique / Feedback Topic?

Cathedrals - Sadly I don't have a ton to say about this track, save for the fact that I really REALLY like it. Has a bit of a Burial feel to it. Passive - The really subtle atmospheres work really well. - Really diggin' the minimal feel of this track in general. The Girl is Not Here - Nothing reall...

Re: Critique / Feedback Topic?

Yeah, Drumcorps actually started out as Aaron Spectre doing raggacore. He's stated Bong-Ra as a major influence for Drumcorps, though Bong-Ra's work also has hardcore techno and rave influences, a lot of his work is a bit tongue-in cheek.

Re: Critique / Feedback Topic?

Fire Walk With Me - The first half of the track is dripping with tension, awesome. - By now you've probably gathered that I'm a whore for reverb, but It feels like the kick that starts around the 2 minute mark needs to go one way or the other… it needs to have more punch, or be subdued a bit more s...

Re: Chillwave?

A friend of mine is big into it. I dig it, but not enough to build a collection of my own. I kind of listen to it as a means of inspiration for my WH stuff, I feel there's some overlap there somewhere.
