Re: MIDI keyboard for $ 200 - what?
Many synths created from about 1982 forward incorporate MIDI. So note that these can equally be used in that regard (in other words to play virtual synths), as well as without. Which in my opinion, makes them a lot more versatile - assuming you find one in your budget! This is why I mention the MS20...

Re: Witchhouse as a trend...
I'll stick to my view that there are essentially two "pillars" in the genre. Those of us a bit older and with a true affiliation in the occult, and those a bit younger who like it more superficially. The latter is not meant to be derogatory, but I've caught instances of, for example, runes...

+1 on the Korg legacy pack. And respect to them for only charging $50 per; with good emulations. Disrespect to Arturia who continue to rip people off.

Re: Fruity Loops 10 - Witch House Newbie
It's interesting to see the different generations into witch house. I imagine a good majority on this forum and elsewhere had never heard of Coil, World Serpent, and the like; so naturally have a different essence to bring. It was somewhat amusing when I posted an Ain Soph track on my Facebook profi...

Re: Fruity Loops 10 - Witch House Newbie
For instruments, synths using a sawtooth wave are popular. Beats are often done with an 808 kit.
P.S. This may be helpful as well.

McII> Am sure you've seen this, right? http://touchdigitalcontrollers.co.uk/ Sick, but way expensive. That said, I think if you're going to charge several hundred dollars for a VST, at least include a custom controller for it.

Re: Favorite virtual synths?
Agreed; I love Reaktor.
For me the ideal is a focused blend between analog and VST. Tweaking a virtual knob though will never be the same as a nice scratchy old pot; especially for those of us who are on computers all day.

Re: MIDI keyboard for $ 200 - what?
Get a Korg MS2000 for $300; will serve as a MIDI keyboard, plus will play sounds without laptop assistance (virtual instruments).
The fact that MIDI keyboards - hardware that make no sounds whatsoever - cost over $100 boggles my mind. Same for virtual instruments.

Re: Favorite virtual synths?
2 ƧƆỴ†ɧЄ Talkin' bout real synths, what would you prefer: korg ms2000s or microkorg xl ? Never played an XL, but am not a fan of these small keyboards. The MS2000 has full-sized keys and some heft to it. There are a lot fewer knobs on the XL, so in my opinion a lot less fun and experimentability. I...

Favorite virtual synths?
Even though I'm analog obsessed, I still love me some nice virtual reality. What are everyone's favorites? Besides Absynth, I'm falling in love with these as of late: Minimonsta J8V Both of these (especially the Arturia) are overpriced in my opinion, but they offer free trials. On a separate note, a...
