Re: Witch House and "Genres"; a perhaps controversial essay

Was this in response to something specific? I do agree that people shouldn't *worry* about labels, either way. For most people, they're simply functional. I'm more than fine with labels, genres and vivid descriptions in terms of helping find other music I like. They're less necessary now because it'...

Oddly, the exact same criticism of lots of dubstep.

For better or worse, the answer is no. However, i think that while we're able to attach more
names to things than ever, the boundaries between different kinds of music are looser than ever.

Which is a cool thing, IMO.

Re: Völsavilla

It doesn't scream witch house to me, although it's obviously atmospheric and dark.
Mostly I'd just say it's ambient rather than W-H.

I don't think W-H has enough history or meaning to strictly rule something like your tune out either.
It's definitely relevant to post here.

Re: Any local witch house scenes?

Re: Mixing in Witch House... I've struggled with this for some time (as stupid as that may sound). I come from a house background where beatmatching is just part of the scene (as it is with techno, drum and bass, dubstep, etc). When I first saw witch house DJs simply blending in and out, I was real...

There's been some talk of doing this somewhere else that can go later,
but I don't think that has been determined yet. I'll probably play a mix of:
dubstep, breakcore, techno, industrial, noise or whatever (witch house?)

Re: Any local witch house scenes?

Nothing really here in Pittsburgh. I don't think any bands that are under this umbrella have played here yet, although I have a few things in the works. Personally I prefer hearing this sort of thing within a broader context, and not necessarily all focused on a niche sound. At some dj nights I'll t...
