I love you, help me.

Well, I made a shitty EP (trust me, it's shitty, lots of filler), and I'm looking to move on into more serious witch house making.
So I need some software that I can pirate that'll actually make me spend time working on my music. I've been using FL, but that shit is suck.

I'm using a PC, and thank you Tundra, I'm looking into it currently.

You can do a free 30-day trial with Ableton too, FYI.

I'm doing the 30 day trial, but it's not free enough.

EDIT: I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing therefore I'll stick with FL

WARNING: This my opinion and nothing more.

If you're serious about music production, I'd suggest trying to learn Live. There's plenty of books and free videos available. Look up ASK Video - they have amazing Live tutorial videos.

You can do so many things in Live that you can't in FL Studio. It's an okay program (Benga and Skream use it), but it's still fairly weak.

Edit: Live also has built in tutorials to help you learn.

Here's the full manual: http://downloads.ableton.com/manuals/82 ... ual_en.pdf

But I suggest just jumping in and fucking around. The basics, in my opinion, are pretty intuitive.

That said, there seems to be general consensus that Komplete is the best. http://www.nativeinstruments.com/#/en/p ... omplete-7/ But it's more $.

There's another good thread on the board here with some talk from other producers. I think it has "instruments" in the title.

Yeah, Ableton Live & NI Komplete is a really good combo. Ableton makes really good instruments, too.

I orgasmed when I first saw Komplete, but unfortunately I can't find a way to steal it. I'm damn sure I'm not giving NI any more of my money. Also, jumping in and fucking around didn't work.

Actually, if you're going to give your money to anyone, it should be to companies like NI and Ableton. They're small, well run, and have amazing tech support.

I've been producing music since I was 16 (although not always electronic music), and I have to say that it is NOT something you learn overnight or even in a year. It's a serious time investment and, if you're really into it, will consume your life.

Holy crap, I fucking love Ableton Live. It took a while too get into, but now that I'm used to it, it's great.
Thank you so much Tundra and Scythe for helping me out in this, the decision to change DAWs was a big one, and I thank you both for ze help.

yo! use what works best for you! i've said it before in other threads, if you find you're limited by a program or a piece of hardware, improvise and adapt. that's true for any kind of music production. i've heard REALLY DOPE beats coming from a buddy using a little mpc-1000, a boss rv-3 and 4-track tape recorder.

i myself have been getting good results out of a half-functional Casio RZ-1, a casiotone vl-1 and a dated version of Cool Edit Pro. it's all about finding a set up that you're comfortable with that provides you with the versatility that you need to progress. you can't just dive into a new program and expect to get its full potential out of it immediately. T U N D R A made a good suggestion: Ableton is the most cutting-edge program right now and has the most capability for both home-production and live performance using midi-keys and triggers. if anything, i would tackle that program and try to sap it for everything it's worth.
