Beginning in Composing/Producing

Post by c▲ndlel†ght » Thu Apr 18, 2013 9:12 pm

Hey guys, I really like witch house and I was wanting to start producing some music, but I don't know musical theory and I don't know shit about DAWs.

Do you guys have hints? Like, where to start, what to do, where to learn. Also, how was it when you first start composing? You guys already knew some things or is there anybody here who started from the scratch, just like me?

I can give you any clue on how to proceed.

One day i took Ableton i started making shit and i learnd by myself.. musical theory is not that important if you have " the hear " for music..

About DAW , just pick the one you want and try..

Is Ableton more beginner friendly than Fruity Loops 4.1?

Can you give any general hints for a complete newbie in DAWs and composing?

1. Get a DAW
2. Download or watch on-line tutorials (lynda.com tuts for Ableton are good enought to start with, then find other tutorials on youtube).
3. Be creative.
4. Play, listen - every single exercise will improve your skills

Best way to learn producing:
70-80% of time practicing
20-30% of time reading about musical theory/technical stuff

Also, check your PM.

I'm cheap and lazy so I just use Audacity Portable, that way I can produce and master tracks on the fly, and that's been working fine for me. I'm predominantly a metal producer, so I'm a bit of a noob at this, but I haven't faced any serious problems yet.
