Vintage Mono Synths

Post Posted

Hope this is some help if you are after vintage and unique sounds.

The WIK▲N Top 10

1. The EDP Wasp
Image
Sounds like its name, thin and buzzy, great for harsh noises

2.Korg MS 10
Image
Modular synthesis on your desktop, imo as fat as anything a Minimoog can produce.
Totally worth the money they cost.

3.Roland SH 101
Image
With white noise and arpeggios on board its a little killer. Just look at its past users.

4.Jen SX1000
Image
Another budget synth due to having no midi or ext control. I remember picking these up for $20 in the early 90s.
Great sound and great for live performance.

4. Transcendent 2000
Image
Home built from a kit and always made wrong :D Everyone sounds different due to its build.
Much loved by Martin Hannett and Joy Division. It also made the ghost noises on "Ghost Town"

5.OSCar
Image
Built like a tank and it has Midi. Huge sounds from something that looks like it was made by Fisher Price.

6.Yamaha CS 5
Image
Cheap nasty and fizzy and then from out of nowhere lush smooth tones, usually ignored by people when looking for synths.

7.Octave Cat
Image
Like the EDP Wasp, cheap and nasty oscillators that create unique sounds.

8.Arp Odessey
Image
The best MiniMoog you can buy thats not a MiniMoog . . . .

9.Sequential Circuits Pro One
Image
Unbelievable sound from a little synth one of the kings of the bassline.

10.Teisco 110-F
Image
No not from Tesco's value range but an early version of Kawai. Another unique sounding synth with limited but great control.

NEXT WEEK : WIK▲N's Top Ten Polysynths . . . . . ;)

Fine, I'll do it myself. Here's an analog drum machine that's not vintage, but sounds amazing:

Vermona DRM1 MKIII

Anyone with experience on this please chime in.
