2nd in an instalment of bargain bin classics that have unique sounds. Ive avoided the usual Roland gear for forgotten units.

1.KORG DDD-1


Cheap trashy and separate outs for all drums with loads of control.

2.YAMAHA RY-30


Clean and heavy.

3.Oberheim DMX


Phat and heavy with loads of bassssssss.

4.SCI DRUMTRAKS


Unique sounding and really analog like the 808.

5.YAMAHA RX-11


Another Hip Hop producers favorite and really cheap.

6.EMU SP 1200


Early Hip Hop classic like the 808.

7.ALESIS HR 16


Good banks of sound and a good sequencer.

8.EMU PROCUSSION


Amazing underated piece of kit. Every percussion and drum sound you will ever need with the control of a workstation.

9. ALESIS D4



Great for live as you can use drum triggers to fire off the sounds or even mics . . . . . .

10.KORG DDM 110


More cheap trash that sounds great.

You can pick em up quite cheap now due to VSTs of them being pretty good. The SCi Drumtraks is the one that holds its value like the Rolands. I love my crappy Korg machines just wish i could get a full set of soundcards for the DDD1 im missing 2 i think.

The Schlagzwerg is PURE SEX. So glad developers are realising that people want cables and dials again

Since I hijacked this thread into the modern day, check out this beast. The video is entertaining enough, even if you don't care about the [apparently] best drum machine in the history of the human race.

P.S. Wik, I just found a good deal on one of these (an older MKI), so added into the arsenal!

Just to chime in here (again). You can find Drumtraks pretty cheap - as in a few hundred $. They have MIDI, sound amazingly retro. Hard to beat in my opinion. Can't see how an 808 would be worth thousands more. The 707 though I think is still a good value and not too expensive.

Agreed - 606s are still cheap! At least relative to the 808s and 909s. My latest drum machine purchase is a Korg KR-55B. Stoked to play with it!
