It's pretty rare that we include any reference to a press release but basically this dude's right on the money - actually accurate for once! Please note that 90% of record shop blurbs on sites are copied straight from press releases and we've always tried to avoid it but here it's over to them... "How can I describe the music? Gothic noise with definite pop appeal ... but the production is heavily influenced by Southern Rap (Crunk) and Chicago Juke (we interject here to say that this sounds like a ridiculous press release moment but this music is so mental that we'll definitely go with them!) The male vocals are generally Screwed and Chopped and the female vocals could be compared to Chromatics. The most frequent points of comparison seem to be The Knife, Burial, Cocteau Twins etc etc. It's some of the prettiest, darkest music you are likely to hear in the next long while." This is an AMAZING record you'll either get, and will change your life, or won't, thus it won't....

Not gonna waste a lot of words on this one - partially because this limited (500 copies) white vinyl 7-inch is already sold out most everywhere, and partially because as much as I really dig their music, I can't pin any solid descriptions on the trio known as Salem. Imagine the Cocteau Twins on a dirty south kick? Or the kids from the Knife all gothed out in high school, smoking cloves and listening to shoegaze during lunch break. If you haven't heard about these guys yet, you probably will soon. And if that description didn't intrigue you, let the music do the talking - check "Redlights(1)," "Dirt(2)," or any of these four tracks really. Debut release from Acephale, the new label from Patrik North of Summer Lovers Unlimited fame. Includes a free sticker. Recommended.

debut ep the hottest band in america right now. it's limited to 500 white vinyl copies on new label acephale. salem are already the queen / kings of the blog world. they play a sort of gothic noise with definite pop appeal...but the production is heavily influenced by southern rap (crunk) and chicago juke. the male vocals are generally screwed and chopped and the female vocals could be compared to chromatics. the most frequent points of comparison seem to be the knife, burial, cocteau twins etc etc. it's some of the prettiest, darkest music you are likely to hear in the next long while.
