it will most assuredly be connected to your google account but looks to be more in the vein of Spotify as far as listening/sync features.

I think this is Google's way of slapping the whole world in the face and saying, "Hey, it's America and we get Google Music first." I actually use it a lot, plays music at higher volume than iTunes and stores all 50 gb of downloaded music effectively. I have not encountered a situation in which artist names were scrambled from ~▲†▲~ to ~?.239%140219420~ either! Retaining symbols is a good thing.
