Balam Acab
"Heavy Living Things"

February 17, 2010 6:05 p.m. by Matthew Richardson

Balam Acab takes its name from a Mayan demigod, whose arrows pierced the clouds and created rainbows. There aren't any rainbows to be found, however, in Balam Acab's bleak, dubby beats, whose spirit sounds like it might be borrowed from a little bit from Art of Noise and a little bit from a crime scene. The sound of "Heavy Living Things" seems more appropriate for a place beyond the veil then above the clouds.

Listen to "Heavy Living Things" at 20jazzfunkgreats.
