The most asked question always seems to be "what synth for X sound" when really it's often not the synth but how you use it. What really captivates me are unique effects to warp sounds.
I can't get enough of Dumpster Fire, MISHBY and Backmask by Freakshow Industries. I downloaded them for free and liked them enough to buy not only the licenses but a bunch of Freakshow's tshirts.
Others that are my go-to for weird sounds include Fracture and Hysterisis by Glitch Machines, Melda's MAutoPitch, Valhalla Supermassive, Aegean Pitchproof, Cloudseed by Low Profile, Things Texture, Izotope Vinyl and Waves Factory Cassette Transport.
Would love to hear what everyone else is using, bonus if it's available for free.

I don't know if these qualify as "weird", but I really like the following for creating some old school horror movie ambience in tracks:
DSK Darkness Theory, Overture & Chaos Theory - https://www.dskmusic.com/
Sonatina Choir - http://www.vst4you.com/pages/vst%20inst ... choir.html
DVS Nanotron - http://www.dreamvortex.co.uk/instruments/
Emily The Strange Organ - http://www.vstplanet.com/Instruments/Organ_6.htm

I'll check these out. I can only use a handful of DSK plugins because I'm on Ableton which is 64 bit only. I"ve tried using a bridger for 32 bit plugins, but the experience was a bit meh.

H.G. Fortune Atonoise FX - 32 bit only but great for turning basically anything into a horrifying atmosphere ala Die Sonne Satan.

Devicer - not really weird, but its a fun LoFi tool, has a VHS effect

Ned Flangers - Basically a Boss BF-2 Flanger, a staple of Robert Smith's early guitar tone.

EchoMelt and VectorMelt by Psychic Modulation - Not free, but its got that drifty VHS magic, one of my most used FX

Re: What are your favourite weird plugins?
I picked up Soundtoys 5 at 55% off this week, and I'm absolutely stunned by the quality. Was debating on whether or not I need to spend the money when I already have similar effects, but Primal Tap isn't just another delay, Crystalizer is gorgeous, everything just sounds so good right out of the gate.

Electronic Soundlab are producing some great creepy plugins, and do free 'lite' versions as well. I'm really liking their Haunted Guitar vst.
