TEAMS killed it last week. Come see him murder it at this party for free, too.

How old are you?

I've been trying to find a an all ages venue with no luck! I don't like bars and would prefer it to be all ages anyway.

I'm 19, there's like bottom of the hill and other places but I don't know how open venues like that are to this genre of music

I won't tell!

I'm not sure if Truck really IDs - if you're underage and somehow sneak in, don't be an idiot and get trashed. Enjoy the show, hang out with us, and there won't be any drama....

I just want to say for the record that whoever chose the name Bobby Peru as a stage name is a fucking genius.

No - not him.

This particular Bobby Peru runs a few parties around Oakland. He's just a DJ I believe.

The problem is economic: booze is how most of these places pay their overhead and whatever's made on door goes to talent and/or to that night's staff.

That said...

Bottom of the Hill is conceivably open to this kind of thing (esp. as a daytime show) but would want to see the $ for sure.

Rickshaw Stop does all ages, but I'm guessing they're gonna want even bigger piles of cash than BoTH based on their ticket prices for shows.

Parkside does all ages occasionally and would be less likely to be money-hungry, but their demographic skews decidedly more towards the tattoo & pompadour set.

Du Nord does all ages from time to time - I think so, anyway - and the upstairs Swedish American Hall would be PERFECT for a WH event, but not sure what their booking & rental policies are like.

DNA Lounge does all ages (and very well I might add,) the vibe and history would be absolutely appropriate for WH, and of the venues mentioned has the best sound system for our purposes... the only concern being how much dough they're looking to make.

Sub-Mission actually might be a good bet: it's nominally a punk rock "event space" but isn't so pigeonholed as other such places.

Cell Space is the one I think would probably be the most likely to happen and the most fun given the limitations. If one were to try to set up something here, a benefit or 'cause' will help get you in the door because they're a non-profit. Also, this place is very visuals-friendly.

thanks for the suggestions! venues in SF are tough -- there aren't a lot of good spaces that are the right size for us right now. Bottom of the Hill primarily does live shows, as far as i know, and we want this to be more of a dance party with some live sets. Rickshaw and Du Nord are great, but too big. i don't think there are realistically more than 100-150 or so people coming out to parties like ours or 120 minutes. another issue is that even clubs that have a restaurant license sometimes restrict their club nights to 21+ (i don't know exactly why, but if you look on DNA's website, you'll see a lot of their parties are still 21+ only -- they mainly do all ages for shows).

anyhow, we're hoping to get bigger and be able to consider other venue options down the road, but for now, i'd rather pack a small bar than have a few people standing around a large, empty club. the other big issue with places like DNA is cost, as you mentioned. some places have a bar guarantee the promoter needs to meet, while others charge rent. we'd have to pull in a lot of people and charge a much high cover at the door -- especially on a weekend.

i'll look into the other places you mentioned, since i'm not familiar with all of them. but we did a bunch of venue scouting beforehand, and for a number of reasons, Truck seemed like the best place right now. we need to focus on building up the local scene, and hopefully those larger venues will become possibilities down the line. stay tuned. :)

also, all that being said, Truck may have an all-ages license, since they are a restaurant until 9pm. i'll try to find out the details.
