Make Me Like Witch House

Post Posted

Hey dude. What's going on, guy? Oh my story, haha well I gotta say, it's been a minute since I've been actively engaged by w-house. When it kicked off I was all 'whoa' but it's become so homogenized and linear now that I'm just like 'ehh'. Was it the slew of horrible and forgettable slowed Beyonce songs in 2011? Or maybe just that when every other dude is named ▲†ΔR1 ✄VMG☹/ you just kinda go 'well fcuk it I wonder what Austra is up to'. Anyway, recommend me some legit stuff.

I don't give a rats butt about pop songs some kid pitched down, I'm into more like actual songs. Not so much instrumentals either, I like vocals. Bonus points if they don't sound like some huge fat guy murmuring with his head in a toilet. To give you an idea of what I'm looking for:
- SALEM - Traxx. I don't get why this song isn't more popular. crazy layers of searing synths and a gorgeous chorus.
- shit that sounds like Pocahaunted
- shit that's really crazy and noisy and thrashy
- shit that actually goes someplace and doesn't just meander like some wishy-washy goth-jam
- weirdo synthpunk influenced stuff like Sewn Leather or Johnny Teardrop
- Bruxa is also pretty cool but I'd like to see the idea of witchstep taken in a harder, bassier direction; anyone doing that stuff?

I'd be down for some rap stuff too but almost nobody ever does that well. Hit me up on this. Thanks.

this might be a little off topic, but you know, I never really understood why Maiovvi wasn't included in that first wave of WH artists. Now, this might be arrogant of me to suggest it, but in 2009 I did an album with this cover:

Image

so occult symbolism = check
the whole album's idea was centred around a fake score for a long lost unmade giallo.
the 2nd track was called 'Witchcraft'

so I've come up with a series of theories about this
1) the album was actually so awful it was ignored
2) my idea of what Witch House is is totally wrong
3) it's too fast and too italo to be considered Witch House

Excuse my arrogance in this matter.

anyway.
I really liked the more techno offerings -

Look into my work:
http://www.mediafire.com/?7sz1a9s3poojgmr

It's "post-Witch House", or rather... A genuine House music variant of Witch House, along with a massive assortment of Synthpop, Trance, Rave, etc. etc. etc.

in my humble opinion one of the best tracks that came out from Cosmotropia De Xam's hands, from MSV's last album Inverted Triangle 3:
MATER SUSPIRIA VISION feat. SHIVABEL - La bocca è la tana del bianco coniglio
http://matersuspiriavision.bandcamp.com ... o-coniglio\

BATHAUS - Inferno:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6-VnxmG8RE

one of the best tracks I've heard last year, can't wait for their CD to arrive (order here)

I really dig BL▲CK † CEILING stuff lately, his music is getting better and better with every release.

M‡яc▲ll▲ "All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter" is really dope

not really WH, but new Tri Angle signing Evian Christ released great mixtape "Kings And Them" that blends juke, ambient and southern raps.

also Slant Azymuth LP for all hauntology lovers

all A Witch House & Okkvlt Guide To Twin Peaks compilations are top notch

i feel ur pain, i defo burnt myself out on the typical witch-house sound fairly quickly, but it seems people have been moving away from this and expanding in all directions.
my recent tunes are way more influenced by juke and classical than by witch house and if you're looking for hot wtich raps, then check out http://dirtypharmeceuticals.bandcamp.co ... r-gone-bad

other than self-promotion, witches who i still fuck with, who are pushing witch in a good directions include:
witchboy, who just put out this new album (http://baku-shad-do.bandcamp.com/album/apocalipstick) he's on dat creepy weird synthpunkwave
party trash who''s super talented and super next level
Tash Willmore (<3 <3 <3 <3)
m∆dd3n/pizza wizard- some hot memeraps
men in burka- straight turban wave, the suicide bomb
zxz (see above)
pictureplane- (g0dh34d)
Nattymari- witch harsh noise
XxȻɅƝЅxX- hella tight
i'm sure i'm forgetting a lot but u dont' gotta worry homie music is still trill

Uh- what a weird f-in coincidence. I love your work myself. It's not witch house, it's more minimalwave/italo-even synthpop. But I bought your Bloodstained LP and though it was a brilliant idea. Reminds me of Moroders work. Clean and precise analog synths and production. Murderfunk off the new album is straight killer :D

I say weird coincidence but I was recently playing with the idea of emailing you and attempting to do a sort of drag remix of Night Moves. That is your most WH potential sounding track. Full of atmosphere and deep textures. So..what do you say ? You can hear my music here: http://mcll.bandcamp.com/

Oh that's weird. I didn't realize anyone here was making "witch-house" to impress some old, tired-ass fashion blogger whose constant endeavor to stay chic and hip leeches and bleeds dry any new forms of creation he can get his grimy, untalented hands on.

Make you like witch-house? News flash: No ones making you listen to the stuff.

so i skip through bandcamp and i have a very short attention span, like most people do. i see this cover. initial thoughts: "antoni maiovvis happy birthday party mix".

that could be the problem. ;)

Must be a generational thing. I saw that art and immediately thought "Giallo, this must be a brilliant album!"

And I was right.
