Any other Scott Walker fans on this board? The Drift is the most terrifying (and quite possibly also the most beautiful) album I've heard in my life. Here's the second track, "Clara". Try listening to this blazed, alone, in the pitch dark. You can't.

I figured posting on a UK board I would find some fans of Scott's...Much like football, he is drastically underappreciated over here in the States.

I'm absolutely obsessed with his lyrics...Listening to him croon them out is like walking through a museum of his nightmares.

Have you seen the documentary, "30 Century Man"? It has some very interesting footage of the recording of "The Drift", shows them buying a pork side to punch, constructing giant boxes to bang things on. Really cool stuff.

I love Tilt. Listen to that or The Drift in a dark room with good headphones on, certainly an experience you won't forget. He's always been ahead of his time, but the thing that seals it for me is how much of a teen idol he once was. Somehow I don't see Gerard Way pulling out a Farmer In The City anytime soon.

I love me some Scott Walker. He put out a bunch of mediocre crap in between Scott 4 (some of 'Til The Band Comes In is alright and his tracks on the Walker Brothers album Nite Flite were really good to, actually) and Climate of Hunter, but the guy is a legend.

Any Pulp fans here? Scott produced their final album "Weeds", and it's fucking phenomenally good.
A humorous aside, Jarvis takes a lyrical dig at 'Til The Band Comes In in the track Bad Cover Version,

From wikipedia:
"Most notable is the reference to and "The second side of 'Til The Band Comes In", a 1970 album by Scott Walker. Walker was the producer of Bad Cover Version, along with the rest of the We Love Life album. 'Til The Band Comes In contains original songs on side 1, and cover songs on side 2. Critical reaction was that the covers let the album down, an opinion which Walker himself has now admitted he shares, stating that the inclusion of covers was a compromise with the record company. Pulp singer and lyricist Jarvis Cocker has stated that the lyrics were written and finalised before he knew that Walker would be involved."

I read an interview where Jarvis basically said he just sang the line and hoped Scott wouldn't notice. Scott never said anything about it, and Jarvis always wondered if he was just being gracious or really just wasn't paying attention.

Tim Kinsella did a few Scott Walker covers as a solo artist and as "Joan of Arc" - he was a huge fan.. and it is because of that that I first heard Scott. Really bizarre how dark he is - I remember first hearing him thinking I was too young to be messing with that.

Yes he's fantastic! I love pretty much everything I've heard by him, but Scott 3 and Tilt are my two favourites.
