Shouldn’t need any introduction, and while as a film I vastly preferred Hereditary, it would be downright foolish to say this soundtrack wasn’t above and beyond what I was expecting (given that I was never really a fan of The Haxan Cloak), hands down one of the most terrifying and beautiful horror scores ever made, I am insanely jealous Mr Krlic.

• Zetra - Demo One
Weirdo saturated post-deathrock madness that sounds like a cross between Drab Majesty and Brainbombs. Very good. Hope for big things for these freaks.

• Randolph & Mortimer - Manifesto For A Modern World
Excellently produced solid EBM by two cats from oop-north that really should be being booked all the time but sadly this isn’t a meritocracy. It would be a shame if you forced them to pack up and move to Berlin just so they’re taken as seriously as they should. True believers unite. Great fucking album.

• Umberto - Helpless Spectator
I set myself some rules that I couldn’t include anything I released, but to tell you the truth Matt sent me this album ages ago and it’s been in heavy rotation throughout all my trips since. It’s a really mesmerising development of Umberto’s music and everyone should listen to it.

• The Populists AKA Yan Wagner - Belgian Trip EP
Hot New-Beat action on the cool Detriti Records label future classic yeah yeah yeah et cetera (B-Side is ace too)

• V/A - Alamo Basement Tracks
Sent a promo of this, banged it ever since, it’s a huge number of tracks so maybe it’s not entirely for everyone but it’s a great collection and has a high level of weirder dance tracks which is massively valuable in today’s climate of sold out tech-house festival nightmares.

I haven't listened much of music this year. A lack of time that results in a very strange top for this year. I concentrated my attention in filmmaking this year, so you will find a lot of my OST influences for 2019:

• 10. Vön Bikräv - 100% Bibi
  Concentrated of the french gabber renewal collective Casual Gabberz artist Vön Bikräv. Anthems combining french rap samples and gabber for the best.


• 9. Confessor - Slow Measures
  This album/EP has been quite ignored by ambient selectors. I know Confessor for years now, and his music is always a pleasure to be listened to, and maybe the only interesting thing I heard in ambient this year.


• 8. Michael Abels - Us (Original Soundtrack)
  Us is a very strange movie, and music is very important part of its strangeness. Mixing classical influences with rythmic pieces, it is also a great music to listen to.


• 7. MORGVE - XV
  Incredible album for Morgve, who definitely earned their respect for this groundbreaking witch house album, so many tracks could be mentioned, listen to all of them.


• 6. Sidewalks And Skeletons - Entity
  Some albums are so etheral and greatly produced they must be mentioned in a top, and this one also contains one of my favourite track of the year: Destroy.


• 5. White Ring - Chaind Volume 2
  White Ring are still in the scene, and they are still relevant, this album exploring more industrial fields and interesting ways of productions, showing witch house can still be experimental and attractive to the public.


• 4. Al'Tarba & Senbei - Rogue Monsters
  I almost missed this album, and what a miss. Both artists show every aspect of their talent, from ethnic to abstract hip hop, and Al'Tarba brought the infamous Droogz Brigade for the best track of the album: On Hante La Ville.


• 3. OPIA†HE - Distorted Echoes
  This album was released at the beginning of 2019. OPIATHE is a bit difficult to follow, but listening back to this album and its diversity and complexity convinced me it was one of the best of this year.


• 2. Hildur Guðnadóttir - Joker
  Joker is one of the best movies of 2019, and music surprised me in many ways in it, the way it sounds, the way it is played, everything fits so well with the movie, but also stands as one incredible album to listen to, without the movie.


• 1. Ophidian - From The Ashes
  "It is an EP, not an album", I don't care, Ophidian is a god at music composition and production and did it again. The title track is a masterpiece of diversity, of melancholy, violence, production, and intensity, and should be considered, like many other pieces by Ophidian, a masterpiece in the hardcore field. The second track is more classic but also keeps doing the job of the craziest release of the year.

  Brutal synthwave/retro wave and definitely his best yet. Go see him live, it’s definitely an experience.

  The goat returns with a different sound and still manages to keep himself in the game. Great album name too.


• Satanic Hispanic - Satanic Hispanic
  Excellent debut and I’m not just saying that cuz he’s my kin. He merges actual darkwave with witch house perfectly and it comes off as a style as sinister as the heaviest of metal albums.


• Plvgues - Adoration For The Ambients
  Again not just saying cuz this is my homie but this young cat is tearing up the witch house game and keeping it real. This album is packed with what witch house originated as and he adds his own style as well. #DungeonWitch


• Blood Incantation - Hidden History Of The Human Race
  Excellent concept, superb performance and truly fucking heavy. They didn’t reinvent the wheel with this they just said fuck the wheel and took off at hyper speed.


• Ollie Wride - Thanks In Advance
  The solo debut of singer from multiple tracks of synthwave act FM-84. This guy can SING and on top of that is an amazing frontman. Huge Freddy Mercury vibes but Ollie is his own thing. Check him out or FM-84 live if you can.


• Gost - Valediction
  Ok, definitely not my favorite Gost album but it’s still an excellent album. He’s clearly pushing the boundaries with this and I’m all for it. He’s playing with metal acts and is an electronic musician, which to me is fighting the good fight. This is the beginning of a new era for him.


• Sacred Monster - Worship The Weird
  A doom/ traditional metal band from Chicago released their debut about all that is “weird” including HP Lovecraft stories, Twilight Zone episodes, and original tales. You might recognize the bassist if you’re a fan of SAIN’t.

• As far as music well I really am impressed with HIRO KONE's last 2 albums, they are really amazing-audiophiles be aware, just way better than most contemporary analogue experimental acts around, just incredible soundscapes. Her music is a living breathing entity just astounding.
• HIROSHI YOSHIMURA is new to me and I loved pretty much everythung I have heard, but especially drawn to his ZEN album from 1994.
• I keep listening to She Pat Away. SHE PAST AWAY album: NARIN YALNIZLIK gets heavy rotation, I love the songs and production of that album, it's a post punk new masterpiece I would say...addictive.
• Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker I thought was incredible.

  In my opinion this is the pinnacle of America's 3rd wave black metal scene. Esoterica eases the listener in with hypnotic ritualistic pagani chant percussive intro and then unleashes absolute soul crushing furry for the next 40 minutes plus. This is perfect early 90's Norwegian inspired winter music. A lot of bands have tried to capture Black Metal aesthetic or sound and can only pull one or two tricks out of their hats. This band doesn't have to TRY because they ANNIHILATE IT ... They are phenomenal and the pinnacle of what I want 3rd wave to sound like. The way this record is mastered definitely lends to the black metal earlobe within. Brazenly haunting Low Fi but equally a well mastered production! I’ve been following this band since the Horned God video drop and word of mouth in Ohio. Automb not only are effective musicians they really know how to command a crowd live.

• Hildur Guðnadóttir - Chernobyl (Music from the Original TV Series) HBO  (stream)

  MAN THIS GRATES ON YOUR LAST NERVE FOR SALVATION! Chernobyl was a true account and devastating docudrama revolving around the Chernobyl Nuclear power plant meltdown in April of 19886 outside of Russia. These 17 personal electronic soundscapes CAPTURE deer in a way I didn't think could be synthesized musically. Each track is more persuasively and personally haunting than the other. It is a crescendo of despair and an homage to hopelessness all while maintaining beautiful arrangements. This is not only one of my favorite scores of this year. I pre-ordered the vinyl after the 3rd episode première. This album is truly an artful and groundbreaking, Swelling organism of chaos and sonic dementia. It's like Trent Reznor's Ghosts I-V studio album, without any beauty and prolonged terror abridged with sustained decay. It also is reminiscent of Thomas Bangalter's IRREVERSIBLE nausea electronica from the OST of IRREVERSIBLE

• Dark Machine Nation - Pierce The Earth  (stream)

  I have had the honor of sharing the stage with DMN since nearly the one manned army's deviant inception. Where to begin! Well if you took the most brutal aspects of mid 1990's Chicago // NYC Hardcore techno (Digital Hardcore Records era) Then decided to add anarchist vocals of sheer abhorrent mayhem distorted terror you would get damn pretty close. Track after track... track is an unforgiving anthem of pure IDM digital powerviolence! If you are a fan of Delta 9 or even Skinny Puppy you will absolutely LOVE THIS album that is very 1990's Industrial techno..but, completely carves its own niche out with a rusty scalpel.

  I know they made the list a year or two back... wow.. They have grinded and put more effort in...resulting in sheer brilliance! Currently They are recording a full as I type this and we as fans cannot wait.
  They are a true 5 piece instrumental group generating a Proto-dungeon synth crawling Armageddon!
  Heavily Inspired by the more progressive keyboard escapist parts in 2nd Generation Black Metal and a full classical deconstruction vibe you have opened the gates of hellll upon seeing them. Pitch black / Doom ridden compositions.
  SAVAGELY BRUTAL AND CHORAL. Truly a distorted ensemble with classical Tonnal music elements. They are beyond impressive to see live. If your head doesn't move when ingesting this ravenous audio poison you are dead.
  If a frost-bitten purgatory had a soundtrack Bog of Anguish would be the instrumental backing track!
  IF you re looking for the perfect music for a night in playing dungeons and Dragons, while watching Dario Argento films or wanna see a band command absolute brilliant damnation ... seek out Bog of Anguish (Dayton, Ohio)

• Atilla The Hvn - The Secret Doctrine  (stream)

  What a ride! "The Secret Doctrine" finds itself at the intersection of techno, witch house and cinematic sound design, all flavoured with samples that resemble lost transmissions from obscure Kaijū movies. It's a powerful, unique and unforgettable sonic statement that cements Atilla's position on the scene and continues to push the boundaries of witch house further.

• D E P R E S S E D 0 4 0 - Hero  (stream)

  Put together as a tribute to the passing of a friend, Hero is a collection of tracks that D040 managed to rescue from a crashed computer. Although the band describes them as demos, this seven track album takes the listener on an emotional rollercoaster ride through every state of mind of its creators. "Upp I Det Blå" is probably the heaviest and purest track I've heard in 2019.

• Satanic Hispanic - Satanic Hispanic  (stream)

  Witch house debut of the year, anyone? Satanic Hispanic did a drive-by on the scene with his self-titled album, taking no prisoners on his way out. It's a bold, creepy and dark record, that I'm confident to say will age incredibly well. Do not sleep on this.

• Internet GF - Demo_01  (stream)

  Back in 2017, I hailed Internet GF's debut mixtape "Teen Witch" (released under the alias Spirit Bored) for "bringing that teen witch 2009/2010 myspace vibe back". Two years passed, and her "Demo_01" is once again a middle finger to everyone who blindly follows wikipedia's recipe on how witch house should sound. Blending genres from every corner of the electronic music, it may not be the most cohesive album from the bunch, but it slays on so many levels. "Trans day of revenge" has one of the best battle beats I've heard in a long while, and BEGS for a longer version / remix with some rappers.

• ▲NGST - Blinking 00​:​00  (stream)

  Released just a day before the end of 2019, this album was a total surprise. It may feel a bit slow at the beginning, but trust me, it's a grower that makes you want to press that replay button. "Blinking 00​:​00" is like going down the youtube's rabbit hole of obscure trailers to b-class horror flicks, taking the best samples out of them and then trying to rescore those films with synthwave, vaporwave and library music techniques. Seriously, give it a spin.

• FLESH - Hexadezimaltod  (stream)

  FLESH is easily one of the most consistent producers right now. Forever lurking in the shadows, "Hexadezimaltod" is a 16-track long journey through dystopian soundscapes crafted with amazing precision and thought. One of the reviews on his bandcamp calles it "soundtrack to some cyberpunk-meets-film-noir opus" and I couldn't agree more.

• PLVGUES - SΣNT TØ VVΛLK THIS PLΛNΣ ØF ΣXISTΣNCΣ  (stream)

  P L V G U E S, is a monster, he dropped not one but two rad albums this year. The Blvsphemy LP above is my favourite, but make sure to check out his EK4T3 debut as well. With great ear for samples and song structures, his tracks can take you to the darkest and bleakest depths, and at the same time make you want to dance. The progress he made over the last couple of years is incredible, and I'm really excited to witness his further growth.

  In3briant's new album took me by surprise. If CRIM3S' Saddie or Gvcci Hvcci ever thought about coming back they should take notes from this woman. Whether singing, rapping or screaming, In3briant pushes vocal experiments to new and exciting heights throughout the whole record. Her songs are incredibly catchy, but at the same time show how much time, sweat and tears went into crafting them. This record is destined for huge speakers and dancefloors.

• White Ring ‎– Chaind Volume 2 (Flooded)  (stream)

  This is a follow up mixtape to last year's amazing Gate of Grief. Although lots of tracks on this record sound raw and not fully finished it packs a powerful punch with signs of what to expect from the band in the future. I absolutely love the EBM / minimal experiments in "Body High" and "For Rotation", and would kill to hear full EP in this style. That being said, there's only one track that steals the show here, and it's "Heaven2Hell". Definitely one of the tracks of the year.

• BOGUE ‎– Sooriya  (stream)

  BOGUE released 2 other EPs in 2019, but it's "Sooriya" that hit the spot. Blending the best of previous projects of its author (Vagina Vangi and Haarps), this 5-track EP offers an insight into the world where sound design, witch house, synthwave coexist in perfect harmony.

• VASCHA ‎– Dead As Night aka 1  (stream)

  Deconstructed club through witch house lens? Or the other way round? Either way, VASCHA takes the sound of the club underground to new level with their debut EP for Phantasma Disques. Excited for the future of this project.
