- Beach House - Once Twice Melody (dreampop)
Absolutely addictive and catchy stuff from Beach House. I wasn't a big fan of their music before but this album has changed my mind - cadeu - EX (electronic)
Pretty solid work from Hyperboloid Records's artist cadeu. These inventive and futuristic tunes with outstanding melodies are completely eargasmic - Bloodbath - Survival Of The Sickest (death metal)
I'm a big fan of Bloodbath and of it's band members's main bands. Their approach to Death Metal always delivered. Old school riffs along with Black Metal-ish lead guitars, brrrrutal growls and kinda modern sound. Not too heavy, not too technical - it's just fun and I love it! - Lorna Shore - Pain Remains (blackened deathcore)
I was anticipating for this release for a couple of years and actually got what I was expecting. A perfect example of how modern metal music may sound in it's best way - Sudan Archives - Natural Brown Prom Queen (rnb/hip-hop)
Absolutely gorgeous production. The listening experience couldn't be more exciting especially for it's genre. Normally I get tired from such kind of music too soon, but this work is really outstanding - Shygirl - Nymph (hip-hop)
Shygirl at it's best. I always appreciate an atmosphere and a flow from this artist - King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard - Omnium Gatherum (psychedelic rock)
I'd say I've listened to this album like hundreds of times. Some tracks were skipped time and time again, some tracks are probably the best tracks KGLW have ever done. I always got back to this album in 2022 whatever heppened in my life - death's dynamic shroud - Darklife (vaporwave)
Really enjoyable, trippy and catchy album - MORGVE - Bestiary (witch house)
I was really surprised to hear how MORGVE shifted their production and songwriting to such level. This album worths attention and it's definitely one of the best in the genre in 2022. Great work! - Kuedo - Infinite Window (electronic)
I was a big fan of Kuedo's debut album and then I've lost the track and never heard anything new from this artist for some reason. Always appreciated his unique and accesible approach to production and melodies. I'm happy Kuedo is back!

Been a minimal year of musical discovery, though I have been really enjoying what Illuminated Paths has been putting out. A little bias there as they have been putting out my Datapoint releases, but I really dig their vibe, sounds and visuals. I have been primarily listening to my own material, scrutinizing and tweaking for release.
Also, occasionally going into a Cocteau Twins coma.
Late 2022 was pretty good for creativity and 2023 looks even better.

WITCH HOUSE 2022:
- NULLSE† - PASSED INTO ETERNITY (stream) A favorite artist of mine for over a decade, NULLSE†’s PASSED INTO ETERNITY is great as always. Honest music when I hear and feel it. Every listen of NULLSE†’s music holds you with him in the space he creates. His music has always resonated with me; gimmick- less, meditative. Rather than ‘favorite tracks’, here is my core feelings as I gave myself to this album. In short, I love this album as a whole as well as in its individual components. After all this time, you should not sleep on NULLSE†. Tracks 1 - 2 Waking, seeing the abyss surrounding, you make yourself aware of your situation. You are drifting without time and space. There is no other. 3, 4, 5- The surroundings loose light, the space of darkness approaches, where there is no thing to point to, to hold focus, just the expanding dark. Passed into eternity (track 6)- a beautiful release into the aether. Embodying the space reaching into eternity, NULLSE† lets you drift along the waves of space and time as material builds around you. 7,8,9- Nearing another existence your speed and action accumulate, and increase in speed as gravity begins to tighten around what you see as you, beginning again.
- MORGVE - BESTIARY (stream) True to themselves, dark, classic, cinematic, and HUGE. Industrial and Operatic. Any fan of ‘Witch House’ currently should have MORGVE on their radar, this newest album from them is perfect example of why. MORGVE is another artist that I’ve favored for what must be a decade at this point. These two have been able to consistently make great music as well as visual projects. Tuning into MORGVE is more than just an album, they will give you plenty of experiences with their music. All being time and energy that will lead to fulfilling experience. This album is a modern classic in my mind.
- BLVCK CEILING - Die Hard (stream) / Mourning Angel (stream) A true BLVCK CEILING beauty. Again, more than 10 years and still he builds a world of his own. This year had multiple releases from BLVCK CEILING. Another immediate love of mine was mounring angel. I don’t need to convince anyone, BLVCK CEILING is universal.
- Rotten Wolf - Noctvrnal (stream) An original titan of the genre, this album is a perfect example why. It speaks for itself.
- MATER SUSPIRIA VISION - Acid Babylon 2 - The Red Album (stream) The rabbit hole of Mater Suspiria Vision is endless and fulfilling. Without preface, check this work out, and continue to dig. You’ll find more than you can imagine.
- SALEM / Rabit - Bad Dreams (stream) An apparent secret feature from Salem on this song from Rabit, Bad Dreams. Whether true or not I love this track. I suggest checking out the album What Dreams May Come from Rabit.
ARTISTS TO WATCH THIS YEAR:
- SCYTHE - ENNUIT (stream) An industrial titan. With range. This is a beautiful Witch House album, you won’t regret listening through it straight through.
- VIDEL - IV (stream) High-quality music. Consistent. This year will see an explosion from this one. Watch it.
- Suffering Woman (stream) I miss mixtapes, this one has them on the regular. Steady, timeless mixtapes. Big things coming here in the future no doubt.
- Writhing - Mercurial Banter of the Arcane Dyad (stream) This album feels classic. More to come for sure.
Personal:
- PVTY KERRY - EM LAEH (stream) I personally released an album that was made through the hardest time I experienced throughout the year, culminating in a tragic moment, creating from its wake a single track, released as a video, in dedication to one of my closest friends who was killed this year. We’ll see you again soon Flowers.
- Rotten Wolf Rotten Wolf remixed a track of mine last year. There is consistent genius from Rotten Wolf, I’m grateful to work with them. Their releases in 2022 are diverse. Dedicate some time to him if you don’t already. I plan on releasing our remix very soon.
- BLVKMOVTH Id regret not sharing this. Here in Los Angeles (where I currently play live witch house, produce) the attention on the genre is growing. With other dj’s artists I have been a part of BLVKMOVTH productions. We are a group of audio-visual artists and this year we have put on multiple Witch House shows in downtown LA. If you are looking for a renaissance of dark experimental music, pay close attention to LA this year. There are many more things happening here in the underground.

Plvgues kept trve to his sound while adding new layers of etheral ambience and blackend synths. As a big fan of his previous works this one is by far his best yet.
best track: VOLOS - Stay Healthy - Dirt (stream)
Stay Healthy really took all the best parts of witch house and turned them up a notch. First listen felt nostalgic and made me want to listen over and over.
best track: 3VRCRY - Ritualz - Radical Macabro (stream)
Ritualz put forth an extremly dark effort with this one. Elements of industrial mix extremly well with his Witch House Style.
best track: Nadir - Edith Underground - [REC] (stream)
Edith Underground's witch/rave style bursts through this EP full of haunting samples. The mix of haunting samples transitioning over four on the floor beats is simply perfect!
best track: Feels Like Heaven - Systematic Doses - Death Made Trivial (stream)
Systemic Doses offers a classic take on witch house that draws you in then hits you with surprise tempo changes, harsh noise, and even heavy metal drums. Witch Metal is alive in this one.
best track: Idle Hands - Decomposition - White Majestic Fire (stream)
Decomposition brings to the altar a sick mix of horror soundtrack/synthwave-like tracks with that vibe from 2012 witch house. Lots of badass unique synth sounds on this one.
best track: Thaumaturgy - Persona - Personal Torment (stream)
Persona loves their gabber. This one got Prodigy vibes, if Prodigy listened to SALEM.
best track: And Her Lips Were Like Sulfur - Morningstvr - The New Salem (stream)
Morningstvr's vocals make this album stand out, a true student of black metal. This is witch house x demonic dungeon synth for the occult.

A few favorites from the year:
- 01 PETBRICK - Liminal (stream)
Easily one of the best things I’ve heard in a long time. Incredibly heavy while simultaneously playful and willing to be weird for the sake of weird. I went back and picked up the entire discography after hearing this. It’s that good. - 02 Haunted Horses - The Worst Has Finally Happened (stream)
The new full length album from a band I’ve been following for years, These guys were always amazing, but they recently signed to a label (3OneG) and added a bass-player - so now they’re elevated to perfection. Sludgy, doompunk, industrial. What’s not to love? - 03 Witch Fever - Congregation
My most anticipated album of the year, Solid follow-up to their epic Reincarnate EP. This one has a lot more diversity than I expected, with slower melodic jams, but the whole thing still delivers a confrontational and unfettered experience. - 04 Author & Punisher - Krüller (stream)
My favorite A&P album so far. Tristan continues to grow as an artist and branches out his sound in ways that absolutely pay off. - 05 HEALTH - DISCO4 - PART II (stream)
Sure, we all want a new HEALTH-only album, but this has been the best selection of contributors in a long time. Really impressed with the variety and depth of emotions presented on this one. They really lean into their Sad Music For Horny People” maxim and I’m into it. - 06 Executioner’s Mask - Winterlong (stream)
Epic. Fucking EPIC. - 07 Zola Jesus - ARKHON (stream)
Surprising style change, but I really appreciate hearing a different take on the ZJ sound. Really interesting instrumentation and soundscape production. - 08 Curse Mackey - Immoral Emporium (stream)
Perfect follow-up to his Instant Exorcism album - a fully gratifying listen from beginning to end. - 09 Null Device - The Emerald Age (stream)
I had the fortune of hearing much of this album live before its release, so that definitely colored my appreciation for it, but the group takes some amazing risks that work out beautifully. The amount of work put in by everyone involved is clearly evident in the pure quality. - 10 Sine - Mantis Complete (stream)
Flawless, slinky, and sexy production. Filled with 90s goodness and all the heavy alternative sounds you didn’t realize you miss so much. It’s gorgeous.

- Burial - Antidawn EP (stream)
I originally picked up this EP on vinyl based purely on the fact that I knew of the release and that I loved the artwork. I went in with no expectations. From track 1 I knew it was going to be different. While Burial's releases in the past have always been a mix of lo-fi garage tunes and drone-y ambience, this release, along with it's subsequent follow-up "Streetlands" is him fully letting his ambient side shine. Beautiful stuff. - TR/ST - The Shore (stream)
Powerful and insanely earwormy single from TR/ST. In a way, it feels like a spiritual successor to anything off his self titled debut, in terms of sound. The ambience in the track is dark and smoggy, filled with shards of synthesized crystals, broken up electronics and wind-like whispery synthesisers. The chorus of the track features some of my favourite sound design from them, with help from Nick Weiss from Teengirl Fantasy. Definitely will try to blast this at a gothic rave at some point. - Karman - OS7 leak
While only up for a day or 2, the leak beautifully showcases Drain Gang producer Karman's venture into more experimental soundscapes, merging folk instrumentation with anime samples, crystalline digital synths and great vibes in general. Hoping for the full release in 2023. - Sidewalks And Skeletons - Exorcism (stream)
Exorcism feels like Sidewalks and Skeletons at his most accessible. The album blends super clean synth pop with darker trappier sounds, with classic 2010s witch rave sounds. - IC3PEAK - Kiss Of Death (stream)
IC3PEAK keeps reinventing and redefining itself with their releases and 2022's Kiss Of Death sees them in a pop-punk sound, while retaining their heavy use of synthesisers, vocals and ambience. Having the pleasure of seeing them perform live has intensified my love for this album. - Ritualz - RADICAL MACABRO (stream)
The lead up to this album, with the sheer volume of tracks released in Maxi-single format, was definitely an unique experience. While most bands release 1-3 singles, Ritualz essentially put out 5 EPs, full of remixes, covers and B-sides. The full album manages to fit all the singles together into a cohesive product. My favourite track has to be "Die Here Now". Really good stuff. - HEALTH - DISCO4 Parts 1 and 2 (stream)
Similarly to Ritualz, HEALTH teased this 2 part album by releasing collaborative singles since 2018. The result is an album comprising of surprising duets, featuring personal favourites NINE INCH NAILS, JPEGMAFIA and 100 Gecs. While wacky at times, it's a great experience and it shows HEALTH's versatility in terms of working with mainstream artists and blending styles. - Yung Lean - Stardust (stream)
Sweden's biggest sad boy's mixtape is again similar to the last 2, with his collaborative efforts with artists such as Skrillex, FKA Twigs, his friends over at Drain Gang, and our very own Jack-boy from SALEM. It's a beautiful mix of beatless tracks such as "Paradise Lost", slow garage tracks like "Lips", and mainstream pop tracks like "Bliss".

Top 5 of 2022:
- Stay Healthy - Dirt (stream)
This record is the best thing to happen to witch house in years. It’s the dirty, visceral, night soaked “fuck off” energy that the scene needs. - SØLVE - Earth Inferno (stream)
The polish of Brant’s work is unmatched in the scene. The songwriting is solid, and the sound design is so good and has such smooth craft involved it’s got a sort of obsidian and mechanical quality to it. - Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture (stream)
A breath of fresh, modern air in black metal’s lumbering corpse. - Russian Circles - Gnosis (stream)
Deeply meditative heavy riffs with euphoric buildups. - Animals as Leaders - Parrhesia
What can I say? Virtuosic songwriting from another world.

- Stay Healthy - Dirt (stream)
Witch house album of the year. Cohesive and well thought through record that feels like stepping into a hazy world of loss and love wreathed in layers of blurry genres. Call it gutterpop, doom trap, witch-grunge, doesn't matter, because at the end of the day "Dirt" will suck you into this dirty, cursed and magnificent world Stay Healthy inhabit and thrive in. Incredible and rewarding album that should be talked about for years to come. - Elusin - Synfuels (stream)
Cross-genre tour de force, where shoegaze and witch-house worlds collide, heralded by Elusin's celestial and emotive vocals. Her deeply textured beats are drawing from grunge, trance, trap and classical music, while being comfortably and unaplogetically anchored in the witchy foundations. - Lieu Noir - On The Bed Confused (stream)
Nefarious phonk, funeral trap, gloom witchhouse and sci-findustrial clash on "On The Bed Confused", forming a captivating release that's an ode to screwed music. - Sidewalks And Skeletons - Exorcism (stream)
Perfect collage of mainstream-leaning witchhouse, that heavily draws from synth-pop, dark electro/chiptune, trap, industrial techno and even phonk. Best S&S album to date. - MORGVE - Bestiary (stream)
MORGVE is one of the few bands from the scene that constantly pushes the boundaries of the genre, and grows creatively with every album. Incredible to witness their progress and diversity of influences that make up their sound. - Pharmacist - 11111111111111111111 (stream)
Pharmacist has been dropping amazing singles throughout 2022, so having them all compiled on one release was a win. Heavy, murky and witchy vibes, slow-mo rave beats and cinematic drone/synth soundscapes - all channeling the ghosts of the golden days of witch house scene. - Alison Fulci - Tape One (Alison Fulci Is Dead In Apartment 26) (stream)
Although Alison Fulci released a full LP, it was this first release that made me a fan. Six tracks of horror-trap and witch-noise. - M‡яc▲ll▲ - New Condition (stream)
Eight tracks of cold electro and industrial-flavoured music that will work both in a fog-filled nightclub and as a companion to a 3am walk through the city centre. - Besa Negra - Watchman, What Of The Night? (stream)
Wonderfully dreary 9-minute long darkwave anthem that channels some of the gloom and doom of the early witch house era. I seriously keep my fingers crossed this is not a one-off collaboration. - All Blurred Out Vol. 1-3 (stream)
