^ Cool! Scytthe, would you mind posting that in the Resource Links thread too?

On the subject of mastering: there are a few different schools of thought, but I've come to the conclusion that it's usually best to let someone who knows wtf they're doing and has proper gear handle it. However most of us also can't afford to have stuff mastered professionally ... although it's good to see there's already a resource within the community (WIK/\N.)

Because - as far as mastering bundles have come in the last 20 years - the lowest common denominator is still a very good set of ears. It's also important to recognize the difference between a mixdown (which the artist should usually do themselves IMO) and a mastered mix (see above about letting the pros do that.)

Here's some sorta helpful video tutorials on the general subject as applied to dubstep but pretty applicable across the board:

hay scythe, is that the one which is terribly labelled??? If its the one I'm thinking of I'e been organising it for a while now ad almost got it cleaned up and in a sensible (read OCD) order now, will repost it when finished.

And IMO mastering is the darkest of dark arts when it comes to making a record

*high five*

Yep i have a shitload of vintage Rolands and Korgs and stuff all routed into a Soundcraft desk with plenty of bizzaro guitar pedals and racks for outboard. Hella more fun than software when you got a room full of synths and people giving the dials some tweak :D

I love Renoise and recently started working with Ableton Live.

by the way I've been back in the UK for almost a week now and not one person has offered me a steak and kidney pie, sausage roll, pork pie or brain and stem cell pudding.

I've only been away for 2 years... how things changed.

Also, is everything a tesco now? I was back for a weekend in january and even that weekend is a tesco now...

(WIK/\N is a good man to speak to it seems about mastering, his records sound good)

I use Garageband quite a bit for making my tracks, a lot of people seem to look down on it but its very user friendly and you can do so much with everything it has to offer...i think a lot of people think that the harder an interface is the better it will be? Not speaking for anyone in this thread though, i also picked up on some great advice guys
