Meet Grim & Sober, aka Ben McDonagh, a 23 year-old Brit from Brighton, UK, living in Los Angeles.
Grim & Sober began making music at the age of fifteen and says: ‘I started making soundscapes first of all, with the intention of producing music for film.’ He moved to LA in 2009 to study music production for film and has now made that city his home.
His first 4-track E.P., Lost in Translation, is inspired and influenced by his favourite film of that name, and the impacting synths, dark melodies and southern hip-hop style beats of the witch house sound.
The central theme of the lead track, 1hr42mins, which features apocalyptic synths and ad- libbed vocals, is of a character holding on to a friend as the world comes to an end.
