scrobbling is their fancy way of saying "people played this song, and the play showed up on their library."
What that means is enough people with last.fm accounts already like this music enough to play it & put it on their account.
So basically there's a profile of you on last.fm waiting for you to claim it and take control. It's really great for publicity, plus you can literally see how many times people have played your music. And you can upload music to there for people to listen to, as well.
