Re: black metal
Also, kinda on-topic. I've seen Lifelover mentioned by a few people on here, i love(d) them, but i didn't know until now that they had broken up because Nttdal (B), the guitarist, had died!! Fuck. That's sad news. I'm gonna spin some later on...
Re: black metal

Re: black metal
Have to admit that the Black metal aesthetic is one that I adore, trve Norwegian black metal being quite an interesting topic in itself. I am mostly a fan of Doom Metal though. Got into the Witch House through its slightly fuzzy aesthetic and my appreciation of the gothic and evil bits of metal. Love me some shoegaze, which helped the process along.

Re: black metal
I liked the new Wolves in the Throne Room record on Southern Lord. hadn't really heard them before. I've read that a lot of people don't like 'em or find them too ''hipster-friendly". I don't care.
Also, anyone listened to the Funeral in Heaven 7" ? cool stuff. Srilankan black metal with some traditional instruments. quite cool for a newer band on the scene, I'll probably check out their next material, they have a new split 12" coming up soon I think.

So, wich Darkthrone album is the best ? I haven't really listened to it before even though I know the name.

Re: black metal
The general consensus, especially in reviews and on forums, suggest that A Blaze In The Northern Sky is the best starting point. I personally think Transylvanian Hunger is better, cos that's the first one i heard and it kickstarted me into BM.BackAlleyLurker wrote: So, wich Darkthrone album is the best ? I used to be WAY into black metal when I was a teenager...stuff like Burzum, Lifelover, Drudkh, Peste Noire, Mystic Forest, Vinterland, Mortifera, Xasthur, etc.

Re: black metal
Try reading the interview in "Lords of Chaos" around page 150 with Ihsahn and Ulver. They explain it perfectly. The basic idea behind it is that the black metal bands are against any form of herd mentality. To these musicians christianity represents all that they hate about society.

Re: black metal
I'm pretty big on black metal; From the Depths of Darkness actually just started playing on my stereo. My favorite black metal bands are Marblebog, Drudkh, Lascowiec, Leviathan, Horna, Wargoat, Amputator, Absu, Forest, Bilskirnir, Bone Awl, Kallathon, March Into the Void, Hrizg, Xasthur and Wolfenhords.
Re: black metal
I am an avid Satyricon listener.
I know what Cradle of Filth is extreme metal but they're very heavily BM based, and I have met than so I also love them.

Re: black metal
I just finished listening to this album, and it's great. Abyssos play a style of black metal that incorporates some symphonic elements as well as sounds of melodic death metal. This is, in my opinion, their best album, and I highly recommend it to black metal fans.

Moevot are so original sounding, like medieval church music played by a legion of Demons, seriously spooky, brilliant stuff, whatever happened to that guy?iamthesunset wrote:Fucking too right. I was blasting some Brenoritvrezorkre the other day. I forgot how shit-awful the production is, but it's seriously some of the most evil sounding stuff i've ever heard. Eldjudnir are sick too.helvete wrote: most of the legions Noire bands from the early 90s
Moevot are what i'm spinning as i type and they're highly recommended, but are more dark ambient to be honest. Proper fucked up though,

Moevot is great, I actually made a track that samples different elements from some of their songs: http://soundcloud.com/halcyon-silence/les-tenebres
